Northern Territory Nurse Pay & Conditions 2025–26

What NT public-sector nurses and midwives are entitled to in 2025–26 — including the NT's strong rural and remote money.

Ways to maximise your income

  • The instrument is current and operative: NT Public Sector Nurses & Midwives' 2022-2026 EA ([2023] FWCA 2406), nominal expiry 9 Aug 2026. Base salaries verified effective 19/20 Aug 2025 (the final 3% rise): N1 Enrolled Nurse $71,359-$81,479; N2 Registered Nurse/Midwife $80,665-$107,800; up to N8 $189,196. A replacement agreement is being negotiated (commenced March 2026) but is NOT yet approved.
  • Rural/remote money stacks substantially: the Attraction & Retention Incentive pays up to $9,000 over 24 months in 'Remote' (vs $4,000 Darwin/Palmerston) - verified exactly - PLUS a 100% rental concession on remote departmental housing (you pay no rent), an electricity subsidy, and up to $500 toward satellite TV/internet
  • Exemplary Practice status is a large under-claimed loading for non-promotional clinicians: as an N2 it adds 6% (EP1, $5,622/yr) or 13% (EP2, $12,181/yr at the current 20.08.2025 rate) of the N2 4th salary point - superannuable and paid on leave; also open to N4 remote-area nurses. Note: the correct current EP2 figure is $12,181, not $11,825.
  • A recognised postgraduate qualification relevant to your work unit triggers a permanent, superannuable salary uplift: 4% Grad Cert/conversion ($4,312/yr), 4.5% Grad Diploma ($4,851/yr), 5.5% Master's/Doctorate ($5,929/yr); EN with a 6-month/120-hour course gets $3,259/yr. Paid only once regardless of how many quals you hold.
  • Study support is financial, not time-off: this agreement has NO dedicated paid study/exam leave clause. Instead, claim the Professional Development Allowance - up to $2,334/yr (>2 years service) reimbursing course/conference fees, professional-body registration fees, books and up to 50% of conference airfares, with 2 claims per year
  • Shift penalties are generous and apply to all staff below Nurse 6 including part-time and casual: afternoon 17%, night 25%, Saturday 50%, Sunday 100% (double time) - and a public-holiday shift pays 150% ON TOP of ordinary pay (effectively 2.5x) with a 4-hour minimum
